Cold rolled steel prices are projected to continue increasing through 2008

Important Notice to Our Customers:

Steel & Fuel Increase Update

Steel & freight costs are projected to rise again.

Buy now and save or buy later and pay more.

The cost of cold-rolled steel has doubled since October 2007. Domestic manufacturers of steel products--lockers, shelving, carts, cabinets, all the products you find on our site--have all recently risen their prices and more price increases are inevitable.

Bottom line: despite recent price increases, the price you’ll pay for steel today is lower than what you’ll pay in coming months. And as fuel prices continue rising, so will your freight costs. If you’re making a locker or shelving purchase in 2008, make it now or you’ll pay considerably more as the year progresses.

The reasons for the price increases are global in nature:

  • Very little imported steel is coming into the United States because foreign mills are simply making more money selling it in their own backyard. This has deep implications for US consumers of steel products;
  • US manufacturers have to bid as much as foreign entities for globally available steel;
  • As steel makes up half the cost of lockers, when steel prices rise, so do the cost of lockers (and other steel products);
  • Though US mills are operating at nearly 90% capacity, steel consumption exceeds steel production.

All indications point to the steel market getting worse before it gets better.

Plus you’ll have to wait longer to get your products as lead times will increase substantially as we roll into summer.

This is not a scare tactic designed to increase our business. This is the current reality of the market. As the market conditions change, we will update you of those changes.

If you haven’t requested a product quotation yet, please request a quotation now. Your product and freight quote will be good for 30 days from the day it’s provided to you.

If you have an existing quote from us, check the date on it. If it’s past 30 days, we will need to re-quote your project to reflect the recent steel and freight increases.

Even if you buy from someone else, buy now or you will be paying more (perhaps much more) later in the season.
